About

Built to Keep
Talent on the Mission

Velox Research was started to solve problems critical to the Department of War and the Intelligence Community with cutting-edge technology. The idea is to put senior people directly on hard national security work and remove the layers that usually sit between them and it.

Leadership

The people accountable for the work.

Founder & Principal Engineer

M.S. Aerospace Engineering · University of Maryland

B.S. Aerospace Engineering · University of Maryland

John founded Velox Research with twenty years in the industry behind him, to bring sensor design, advanced-technologies intelligence, and hypersonics expertise to the intelligence community and the Department of War. Before Velox, he was a Principal Systems Engineer working in hypersonics and digital signal processing.

Over those twenty years he has moved from conceptual design and MATLAB algorithm development through data analysis and systems engineering for the IC, DARPA, DoW and NASA, leading work on EO/IR systems, requirements for autonomous platforms, and threat-system analysis of high-speed cruise missiles and projectiles, across aero and sensor systems (IR, RF and acoustic) for technical collections and missile defense.

Senior Technical Advisor

MBA University of Mary Washington

B.S. Computer Engineering · Virginia Tech

Ron advises Velox on the design and evaluation of unattended ground sensor (UGS) systems for the U.S. government, helping prepare that class of system for IC and DoW missions and supporting those missions in the field.

He previously ran the engineering department at a company that built UGS systems and custom embedded devices for the U.S. government, where he set the R&D direction and product portfolio, led business development and technical recruiting, mentored the program managers and engineers, and ran some of the hardest projects himself.

Salman Salman

Salman Salman

Senior AI/ML Engineer

M.S. Cybersecurity · Johns Hopkins University

B.S. Biomedical Engineering · Virginia Commonwealth University

Salman leads Velox's AI and machine-learning work: models that run at the edge, on the embedded and low-power hardware Velox builds, in places where a connection back to a data center cannot be assumed. His background is in embedded systems, in virtualized flight computers that let spacecraft software be tested and defended on the ground, and in security for operational technology, with earlier work at The Aerospace Corporation, Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, and the Department of Homeland Security.

Vision

Our Duty Is Your Reward

John started Velox Research to solve problems critical to the Department of War and the Intelligence Community with cutting-edge technology. The engineers here could work anywhere. They chose that work, and in return they own the payload, the algorithm, or the test campaign from beginning to end.

01

Drive Innovation

Take on the problem that does not have a known answer yet, and be honest about which parts are still unknown.

02

Bring Passion

Care whether the thing works in the field, more than whether the deliverable shipped on schedule.

03

Lead With Determination

Small teams only work when people carry the problem all the way through.

Company

Cleared, Registered, and on Contract

A small business founded in 2019 with a Top Secret facility clearance and SCI-cleared personnel. Registration, who we support, and the program timeline are on the Company page.
